The National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA) is calling on Ghanaians in the tristate area, not to miss the upcoming Ghana Independence Anniversary celebrations in New York.
In an exclusive conversation with the Africans Help Desk, the Chairwoman of the planning committee and current President of the United Volta Association (UVA), Madam Rose Ivy Quarshie, said, “the 2024 Independence gala will be one for the books. We are planning to present some elements of surprise, that we have not done before”.
She urged all Ghanaians, young and old, as well as friend of Ghana, to make sure they get their tickets early, particularly the various Ghanaian associations, as people have started making inquiries for tickets, even before the tickets come out. This is an indication that the tickets could be sold out early, and “we would not be happy if our long time patrons are not able to attend this year”.
The Executive Secretary General of the Council, Dr. Fred Ansong Dwamena, added that, as has been the custom and tradition of the Council for over twenty years, NCOGA is collaborating with the Ghana Mission and Ghana Consulate, under the leadership of His Excellency Harold Agyemang, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations, and Honorable Atta Boafo, Consul General.
Responding to a question about the honorees for this year, Madam Ivy Quarshie stated that this year, NCOGA selected Bishop Adonten Boateng for his several years of philanthropy and dedicated service to Ghanaians, not only back home, but in the diaspora as well. She added that proceeds of the event would go towards the victims of the Akosombo dam spillage and the National Council Scholarship funds.
